Over recent years I've been lucky enough to be able to travel around the more rural regions of Italy [Tuscany and Umbria] , France [Provence, Alpes Maritime and Carcassone] and the amazingly unspoilt and undeveloped smaller Greek Islands [Ikaria, Samos and Cephalonia.] Some of these places bear a striking resemblance to the Highlands of Scotland, albeit with a warmer clime and different heat loving vegetation, so there is also the excitement of the consequent shift in colour perception and atmosphere! The paintings in this gallery reflect my response to these places, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed painting them.
Again, they have been created with oil paint on canvas which has allowed me to express the tremendous textural qualities of the landscape in these glorious places. This media is slower drying than, for instance, watercolour, and so it is also much easier to work with in such high temperatures. Also, because these landscapes share a certain ruggedness and texture with the Scottish Highlands, as well as being almost larger than life, then they also share the need for a medium which allows me to express these dimensions and vitality.
The images in this gallery are either 'not for sale' or 'sold' however there is a 'for sale' page on this site. In addition I am happy to take on commissions so please feel free to contact me through any of the methods available on the Contact page of this site.
